Pre-School

PREPARATION FOR SCHOOL   (for our Butterfly group)

We have specific activities in place that will help with the transition between nursery and school.  We know from our local reception teachers that have visited Butterflies, and from feedback about the children who have joined their classes, that our children are well-prepared for Reception. They take the changes of environment and routine in their stride, and show good levels of independence.

All our children are provided with opportunities to take responsibility, to be independent and to work as part of a group – all key skills that are required when moving up into reception.

Pre-School Pack

 PRESCHOOL ACTIVITIES

These are activities specifically for the Butterfly group that will encompass some of the skills that they will need at prep school. Activities may include, for example, some phonics games, some creative activities, counting, cutting and/or threading games.  The focus will be as much on participating in the group, working independently and completing the activity, as on the product of the activity.

LENDING LIBRARY The Butterflies choose a library book to take home every week in their special book bag. They need to take responsibility for returning and changing their book each week

P.E. This weekly class gives the Butterflies the time to work together in teams while being physically active.   It also provides an opportunity for them to be able to focus on being able to get changed independently and pack and unpack their P.E bag.

LIFE SKILLS

The ability to share, play together, listen and cooperate are life skills that are inherent in all of our preschool activities, and independence is encouraged in as many situations as possible.
