Butterflies Woodland School //

Thursley common lies just behind the Nursery School so is only just a short walk away!

We are so lucky to be surrounded by such a beautiful common which we can adapt to make our own Forest School experience. The children are taken to the common in small groups, keeping within adult to child ratio for their session.  This allows children to play safely whilst at the same time enjoying their freedom to explore and learn.

This fun and exciting experience supports children’s learning and development in all areas through activities we do to help support our children in taking their own risks and challenges in a way that is safe and individual to each child’s needs.

We encourage the children to participate in the many activities such as climbing trees, up routing logs, building dens and an array of other engaging tasks. They love collecting leaves, twigs and many other things they find which they then bring back for mark making activities which helps them understand the different seasons. One of their favourite activities is to search for mini beasts!

Our most popular walk with the parent is at Christmas where we go at dusk and the common is lit up beautifully by glow sticks which the children hunt for and take them back to the nursery where hot chocolate and mince pies await them.

Our woodland walks take place throughout the year so appropriate clothing is essential. Risk assessments for each trip are carried out.

When unable to visit the common, the children make the most of being in our amazing garden sat on logs around the den and tepee camp whilst listening to a story and singing some songs and on a really crispy day there is nothing better than a hot chocolate in hand!
